The overall form of the kiln and the shape of the arch on the side first seen from the trail, combined with the very green mossy surroundings, invite comparisons to a Mayan jungle ruin.

This trail starts at the lime kiln ruins parking lot and runs along the shoreline of Lake Winnebago. It makes a tight loop, with the return trip traversing closer to the escarpment that separates the top of the bluff from the lake. A short set of stairs, the Escarpment Connector, allows hikers access to the campsites on top of the escarpment.

Once loop is completed, retrace your steps and wave to the Lime Kiln on the way out. An old timber logging route, where limestone was processed from (you guessed it), an old kiln from 1893. What's neat are plenty of logging relics, pots and pans, various steel scrape metal, etc.
